Château Chantalouette is the second wine of Château de Sales, a historic family estate in Pomerol that has been in the same family for over five centuries. With approximately 47.5 hectares of vineyards, Château de Sales is exceptionally large for Pomerol. The soils consist of fine gravel and iron-rich loam and sandy soils. Chantalouette takes its name from one of the estate’s historic plots.
62% Merlot – 21.5% Cabernet Sauvignon – 16.5% Cabernet Franc.
The grapes are harvested by hand and then vinified in temperature-controlled concrete vats. The 2018 vintage was aged for one-third in oak barriques and two-thirds in vats. Château de Sales states that the Chantalouette wines are bottled approximately 18 months after harvest; however, the official wine note does not specify that all 18 months consist of barrel ageing.
A lovely ruby red colour. On the nose, plenty of ripe red fruit, particularly cherries and red berries, complemented by delicate spiciness and a subtle toasty note. The palate is round, elegant and supple, with juicy ripe fruit and lovely freshness.
The Merlot provides roundness and ripe fruit, whilst the Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc add extra structure and spice. The tannins are velvety soft and refined and lead to a long, balanced finish.
Ideal with tenderloin, tournedos, lamb chops, roast beef and other red meats. Also lovely with game, duck, veal with a rich sauce and mature hard cheeses.

An elegant and rounded Pomerol with aromas of ripe cherries, red berries, delicate spices and a subtle hint of oak.
